Joseph P. Dowd, President
Joe Dowd joined Smith International Adjusters in 1989 and began working in the niche
areas of Fine Art, Jewelry, Cash in Transit, and General Specie insurance handling
pre-risk surveys and claims for these types of risks on behalf of both domestic
and international insurers.
In 1993 Joe became a partner, along with Greg Smith, in Smith Adjusters and continued
to develop this business in these specialty-lines of insurance. As a direct result
of the successful development of that business, Smith Adjusters was sold to Cunningham
Lindsey International (CLI) in 1999, as the method for their expansion into the
United States in these specialty lines of business.
In 2002 Joe went to work for a large Domestic P&C insurer, with the charge of
developing the underwriting operation in the Americas, continuing to focus on the
areas of Fine Art, Jewelers Block, and General Specie business. Joe was able to
leverage his understanding of these niche lines of business with the relationships
in the U.S. market to develop a successful underwriting business that included risks
in the United States, Canada, and Latin America.
